Mill around at the Johnny Cake Festival

Venture to the village of West Kingstown this weekend where Kenyon’s Grist Mill is expected to return to the time when the local mill was a place for socializing, trading and exchanging ideas. The mill’s Johnny Cake Festival offers a chance to explore the state’s history, heritage and harvest season. Those attending can sample autumn fare, including Johnny cakes, listen to live music and tour the mill. There will also be demonstrations of traditional crafts, such as blacksmithing, basket weaving, flax spinning and more. When: Saturday, Oct. 20, and Sunday, Oct. 21, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Where: Kenyon’s Grist Mill, Glen Rock Road, South Kingstown Additional Information: Admission: $2, children 5 and younger free. Off-site parking is available at the Washington County Fairgrounds, 78 Richmond Commons Road, Richmond. Shuttle bus transportation to the festival will be provided.
