Celebrate the working waterfont

New Bedford, America’s largest commercial fishing port, will host its ninth annual Working Waterfront Festival this weekend, offering the public a glimpse into the culture and industry of commercial fishing. Through a variety of demonstrations, performances and exhibits, those attending will learn how a day’s catch makes it to the dinner table. Guests can partake in vessel tours, watch a “dockumentary” and listen to music and poetry performances. This year’s theme is “Fishtales: Fact, Fiction and Narrative Tradition in Commercial Fishing Culture.” When: Saturday, Sept. 29, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 30, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Where: Fisherman’s Wharf/Pier 3, Steamship Pier and State Pier, 52 Fisherman’s Wharf, New Bedford Additional Information: This event is free and open to the public.
