Smithfield is a town in Providence County, Rhode Island, with roughly 21,200 residents. The town includes six villages that date back to the 19th century. The town itself was incorporated in 1731 and started as a small agricultural community. Today, Smithfield is mostly a quiet residential community, but the town has many activities and attractions that residents and visitors can enjoy.
The town has multiple parks and beaches that can be enjoyed by both residents and visitors. Smithfield also has activities for families such as playgrounds, an ice rink, tennis courts and baseball and basketball areas.
Established in 1863, Smithfield is home to Bryant University—a private university, famous for its business programs. Bryant has been ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the 11th Best Regional University (North) in the country.
